Boundarywater — an exciting acoustic trio that featured Stephanie Cope on fiddle, Gary Schils on percussion, and Bill Wilson on guitar — has been on hiatus since the fall of 2024.

Inspired by Celtic and other folk music traditions, Boundarywater infused its original compositions with influences from a wide range of music. The group made its debut on May 6, 2017, in Petoskey, Michigan, at Zion Lutheran Church’s “For the Love of Music” concert. Since then, the trio performed at many venues:

  • Crooked Tree Art Center’s New Year’s Eve Celebration, Petoskey

  • The Back Porch Concert Series, Charlevoix

  • Beards Brewery, Petoskey

  • The Rhubarbary House Concerts, Harbor Springs

  • Petoskey Farms Vineyard and Winery

  • Blissfest’s 2020 Winster Solstice concert, Petoskey

  • Headliner at the Charlevoix Public Library’s WinterFolk Concert, January 2020

  • The 2020 Great Indoor Folk Festival, Traverse City

  • Lavender Hill Farm Local Ground Concert Series, September 2023

  • Chalevoix SummerFolk Concert, June 2024

  • Mackinac Straits Raptor Watch 10th Anniversary Celebration, June 2024

  • Lavender Hill Farm, Lavender Fest Friday event, July 2024

New Album! (sort of)

In 2024, Boundarywater cobbled together nine tunes that were previously released individually, and created a “new” album, “Fiddleheads & Trillium.” In addition to being available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, and other streaming services, this album will be offered on the Traverse Area District Library’s brand-new streaming service, TADL Waves. This service, expected to go live in late July or early August 2024, is an online platform that showcases and shares local music. We are thrilled and honored to have been selected as one of the first “wave” of musical acts being featured on this platform.

The band’s first recording of original tunes, “Sunrise,” is available on Bandcamp.

Sunrise EP

A journey into the plethora of possibilities, Sunrise weaves some evocative and intricate soundscapes that thoroughly encompasses folk influences from around the world. With a taste for dynamic acoustic renderings, these six songs on the EP showcase how well the band jams together.
